PS360

  • Mood: Stumped
This will probably open up a whooooole can of wriggly, slimy and downright unappetizing worms, but I'm going to trust the people who read my very sporadic journal entries to be civil about this.

Would it be better for me to get a PS3 or 360?

To clarify: I'm not going to be getting either fairly soon (I have "married money" donchaknow) and I still love my Wii. I've been trying to weigh the positives and negatives of both and so far this is what I've come up with...

XBOX 360

PROS
-Large library of games available
-Cheaper of the two
-Lots of online features

CONS
-Subscription needed for online
-Known to randomly and without warning choke to death and empty its bowels
-Begins with "X" as if it was made in 1996
-I'm not really a fan of first-person shooters. Like, at all.

PLAYSTATION 3

PROS
-Classic Playstation controller I'm used to
-Free online
-Backwards compatible (at least with older models on eBay?)
-Dude, "Little Big Planet"

CONS
-Most of the good games are also on 360 anyway
-I don't think I've even spent that much on a PC before
-Marketed more as a Blu-Ray player than a game console
-Pack-ins include Transformers "game" and Spider-Man 3 on Blu-Ray. Gee, thanks.

the 40GB PS3 isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games. The 80GB model currently is, but since it's going to become the standard PS3 model it may no longer be compatible in order to cut down on production cost.

I checked and the new 80GB model coming out this fall will not have PS2 compatibility.

If you buy the a brand new Xbox, the change of it dying is very very low, they made the engine much smaller which means it won't heat up as much.

I wont fear that if I were you.

I'd go for the 360 because.. I have it.
But if you don't like first person shooters, maybe you should go with the PS...

I DONT KNOW, JEEZ.

Tough decision...
I don't have either, but a few of my friends have the PS3, and I've had some good experiences... I think? The PS3 has Ratchet and Clank Future, and I know the first three in that series were swell. I guess I'm not super crazy about either, but my vote goes to the PS3.
Why not just buy a second Wii? 8D

It's really about your game preference. I didn't go with 360 because I don't care about first-person shooters. I got sick of those back when they kept re-releasing Doom back in the days of 16 bit. It still feels the same now.

I'll admit that I got a PS3 because I am waning Disgaea 3, but back when I got it, I enjoyed the humorous Ratchet & Clank Future as well as Uncharted. Metal Gear Solid 4 was good, but way too much story. I'm hoping to play the heck out of LittleBigPlanet. I want to make a Godzilla level.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the 360. It's cheaper, it's got more games, and it looks like it has better exclusives.

That said, why bother? There's so much awesome stuff coming out on the Wii (Warioland Shake It, Captain Rainbow, Strong Bad) and the DS (Sonic Chronicles, Chrono Trigger), you might be better off spending your videogame dollar on the systems you already have.

The 360 eats electricity and heats up a small room in about 30 minutes. So it's also a heater. That's worth considering.

PS3 has better HD capability, with its blu-ray player. But that's only worthwhile with a good HD television. However, the 'controller you're used to' you'll be very disappointed in.

The analog triggers are perhaps the most annoying thing in a gaming controller I've ever used. The whole feel of it is different to the classic dualshock.

As for the xbox, on game to game comparisons on both standard-def and HD tv's the Xbox versions are considered superior. Also, ps3's free online comes at a price. Compare the cost of 5 years XBL gold membership with the comparative cost of PS3.
